Instead I want to give you guys something that will actually make your diet more effective and more enjoyable for both your body and your tastebuds. When you're dieting a lot of times it might feel like you can't eat anything that you really like or anything that doesn't have a bland boring taste. But this couldn't be further from the truth. There are certain foods, snacks, and condiments that can make a cutting diet way more enjoyable, and more importantly it can make it sustainable. The 20 foods that I'm about to go over are by no means magical. So eating them wont burn off the pie of pizza you ate 3 hours beforehand. However they will help satisfy your hunger, and theyll taste good without driving your daily calories way up. The first food is a perfect example of this and its pickles. For Some reason most people don't know that pickles are extremely low in calories. A whole cup of pickles only has 17 calories and one medium sized pickle only has about one gram of carbs. Having a couple pickles throughout the day can help fill your stomach up and can add a little bit of unique flavor into your diet. There's even brands that offer bread-and-butter Spears with no sugar added and they have a sweet taste while only costing 5 to 7 calories per spear. The one thing that you do want to be careful this is salt. Pickles are loaded with sodium which can make you gain weight. However whenever I'm cutting I personally don't care because it's only going to add water weight that can easily be flushed out later, but theyre still going to help fill you up and burn fat. There's also plenty of low sodium varieties available if you're concerned about Water weight. Next we have sweet and spicy tuna packets. These are really awesome because not only do they taste delicious but they also have an excellent protein to carb ratio. One packet contains 16 grams of protein and only 4 grams of carbs. That's a four-to-one ratio of protein to carbs guys. This is excellent especially since it's such a portable source of protein. You can make it very quickly if youre hungry and you can take it with you on the go. And like I said it's actually delicious even if you don't like tuna I recommend that you try the sweet and spicy variety. The same company also makes other flavors Like Ranch, herb and garlic and lemon pepper to name a few. And most of them are just as great if not better. For example the ranch version only has one gram of carbs for 15 grams of protein. Which is even more amazing. Another high protein snack that you could take with you on-the-go that actually tastes good is chicken jerky and beef jerky. Even though both are definitely not as good as fresh chicken or beef When comparing it to other snacks it's macronutrient profile is one of the best. Caveman's buffalo-style chicken jerky only has 70 calories with 12 grams of protein and only 3 grams of carbs per serving. Jack Link's makes its original turkey jerky with very similar macros. And of course Jack Link's also makes beef jerky but the original beef jerky only has 11 grams of protein and 6 grams of carbs. Which is about a 2 to 1 ratio of protein to carbs instead of the 4 to 1 ratio that the chicken and turkey varieties have. However they recently released a sugar-free beef jerky which only has one gram of carbs for 15 grams of protein. Thats a tough high protein snack to beat. Just keep in mind that other flavors like Teriyaki and sweet and hot will contain more sugar. So if you could get your hands on the sugar-free one that one is by far the best. So, if you’re curious to find out how to lean bulk properly, stick around. First off, though, let's cover what ‘bulking up’ is and why it’s ideal for building muscle. A 'bulk' is simply a period in which you eat at a calorie surplus to gain weight and add more size. And although this is, in theory, just as simple as eating more, most people in the process make a handful of mistakes that negatively affect the effectiveness of lean bulking. The first mistake is not being lean enough. And this is problematic being that it's just not optimal for muscle growth. As your level of body fat increases, you become less efficient at building muscle and as a result, grow less muscle and more fat per unit of weight gain. And secondly, not being lean enough when you start your bulk means that you’re likely going to have to commit to a long diet to “reveal” your gains. When lean bulking, you want to start lean - ideally under roughly 15% body fat. And if you're higher than this, a much better option for you is first to diet down to get rid of that excess fat before you then commit to a calorie surplus. The next mistake is gaining too much fat compared to muscle when bulking up. What a lot of people believe when it comes to bulking is that the more food you stuff yourself with, the more gains you'll make in the process. This is only true up to a certain point. Beyond that, the extra food that you take in will start to contribute significantly more to fat gain instead of muscle growth, which is then going to take a lot of time dieting to get rid of. I’d recommend implementing a small to moderate surplus of around 10-20% above your maintenance calories, with beginners being at the higher end of this and more advanced lifters being at the low end of this. Then, to best gain muscle without fat (minimal), you also need to avoid the mistake of not setting yourself a target rate of weight gain and tracking that over time. Because the rate of muscle growth slows down, the longer we train. Meaning that you should be setting a goal rate of weight gain throughout your bulk that’s per your training experience and then making sure that you’re hitting that goal. After you’ve set this goal rate of monthly weight gain, monitor your weekly average weight to determine if you’re indeed hitting this goal every month. Now the last and probably one of the most relatable bulking mistakes is not being patient enough. Unlike fat loss, building muscle is a very slow process. And to make matters worse, during your bulk, it’s inevitable that you’re also going to put on at least a bit of fat throughout the process, which can “hide” the added muscle that you gain and make it visually seem as if you’re not progressing. This often then leads people to go back to dieting too soon and not making any progress. Instead, understand that it takes several months and even years when you’re more advanced to put on any noticeable size, which is why you must commit to bulking up for an extended period. When it comes to how to lean bulk properly, you need to be patient, trust the process, and track as much data as you can along the way so that you know when you veer off track and can adjust accordingly. Using germ-free mice and other models, Dr. Greiner has developed a hypothesis that the function of GLP-1 in the small intestine is to improve insulin secretion postprandially, whereas the functions of GLP-1 in the colon are to allow for increased energy intake (in a situation of energy deficiency), dampen inflammation, and protect local tissues. He and his colleagues are taking two different approaches in aiming to improve metabolic health in humans: finding inhibitors of bacterial enzymes to decrease production of a harmful molecule produced by bacteria; and a probiotic approach of administering butyrate-producing bacteria. With the latter approach, the sensitivity of the bacteria to oxygen is a problem to overcome, but their group has evolved a bacterial strain to tolerate some oxygen, with the idea of testing it as a probiotic.
