The Clerk of Parliament in Bougainville, Mr. Robert Tapi, recently spoke about the recruitment process for the new parliamentary structure. The aim is to improve efficiency and accountability in the legislative branch. According to Mr. Tapi, the new organizational structure will involve the retirement and retrenchment of old existing staff members this year, followed by internal recruitment from within Parliament and external hires from outside applicants.
Mr. Tapi clarified that the decision to exit staff was not made by him or other senior officials. Instead, it was a part of the implementation of the new structure. He recently signed letters that advised senior management on their positions under the new organization. The internal recruitment process from staff within Parliament has already been completed, and interviews for external candidates will be conducted next week. Mr. Tapi noted that there was a lot of interest from Bougainvilleans both inside and outside the region, with 76 applications received from external applicants to fill the remaining positions.
Mr. Tapi urged existing employees to adapt to the new structure and demonstrate their value to Parliament. He stressed that the new organizational structure was developed in consultation with the head of the legislature and the Parliamentary Service Commission. Its aim is to enhance the performance and responsiveness of the parliament.
