My takeaway is that MRs can yield greater weight loss than diet alone when used as one tool among many within a supported weight loss program. This interpretation is supported by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, who stated MRs can be helpful for adherence to a low cal diet through portion control, convenience, limiting dietary variety and reducing problematic food choices. There are a few studies that can help address whether MRs in general are important in the long haul.The Look AHEAD study investigated a comprehensive weight loss program that introduced many strategies. Over 8 years, some maintained their weight loss whereas others regained. Both the maintainers and regainers said they used shakes the same amount, suggesting that shakes are not the key. The maintainers reported more physical activity, self-weight monitoring and more frequent low cal food intake. The National Weight Control Registry follows individuals who have maintained at least a 30 pound weight loss for a year or more. There's no one size fits all approach. However, only about 1/10 report using MRs, whereas 9/10 report keeping healthy foods at home, regular self weighing and physical activity. When making major dietary changes it is best to consult a registered dietitian for individualized advice. The best evidence we have shows that partial MR programs can enhance weight loss at 1 year, though the they seem to be less important than other strategies as time goes on. If you’re looking to shakes for weight loss, it’s important to incorporate additional healthy behaviors, like physical activity and healthy nutrient dense foods. And having a fat face is worse than having excess fat in other areas of your body because you can't hide your face with clothes. The most important thing is plain old diet and exercise (I know you probably don't want to hear this, but it's true). When you lose bodyfat from your body, you'll lose it all over, including your face. So the leaner you get, the leaner your face will get as well. Now it will be a slower process than losing inches from your belly, but rest assured that your face will slim down if you are consistent. Some simple tips to get started in the right direction include: 1) increase your cardio. This can be going for a daily walk outside or doing some extra cardio at the gym. Strive to get at least 30 minutes of cardio per day and more if you can. 2) add more veggies to your diet. Rather than thinking about what foods you have to stop eating, switch your thinking to what you can add to your diet that's good for you. When you increase your intake of fresh vegetables and fruit you'll naturally eat less processed foods and refined carbohydrates which can cause you to gain fat and retain fluid. Make it a habit to eat a couple of servings of vegetables and / or fruit with each and every meal. Even if it takes some will power at first.
