Beyond mobility, muscle plays a vital role in metabolic health, regulating blood sugar, and insulin sensitivity, and maintaining a high metabolism, which can prevent diabetes and heart diseases. Losing weight is only half the equation. We need to preserve and build muscle to ensure the health benefits of fat loss are not lost. Resistance training and higher protein intake are essential. The current recommendation of 0.8g/kg of body weight per day is only enough to survive. To thrive, we should aim for around 1.6g/kg. Ultimately, focusing solely on weight loss can lead to undesirable outcomes in the future.
